Linn County Jail Overview

Linn County Jail is operated by the Linn County Sheriff's Office Corrections Division under Sheriff Michelle Duncan. It is the county's adult jail and houses pretrial detainees, people held on warrants or court orders, and sentenced offenders who remain in local custody. Albany, Lebanon, Sweet Home, Brownsville, Millersburg, and other local police agencies do not publish separate adult jail rosters in the research record. When those arrestees are lodged instead of cited or released, the public custody trail points back to this jail and the sheriff's Adults in Custody roster.

The jail sits at 1115 Jackson Street SE in Albany, the county seat. The sheriff's jail overview explains that the Corrections Division is responsible for operating a safe and secure jail facility and that the jail houses in-custody pretrial and sentenced offenders. Linn County uses the term Adult in Custody, often shortened to AIC, on its roster and jail service pages.

Linn County Jail Capacity and Population

The sheriff's jail history page gives a detailed capacity history. The current jail opened in May 1989 with 114 beds, replacing the older 24-bed courthouse jail used since 1939. Linn County later double-bunked single-bed cells, added 20 beds in 1995, opened the East wing in January 1998 with two 48-bed cellblocks, closed 48 beds during a March 2012 budget reduction, and reopened beds in April 2015. The current rated capacity reported in the research is 231 beds.

For calendar year 2023, the official jail history page reports 3,771 offenders processed through the Linn County Jail and an average daily inmate population of 168. Compared with the 231-bed capacity, that 2023 average equals about 72.7 percent of stated capacity. That percentage is a calculated comparison from two official figures, not an official overcrowding finding.

Those numbers apply to the adult jail only. The youth facilities at the Lochner Road campus have separate capacities and do not contribute to the adult Current Adults in Custody roster.

How to Look Up an Inmate at Linn County Jail

The correct public lookup channel for Linn County Jail is the sheriff's Current Adults in Custody roster. The sheriff states that the roster is updated several times a day and that users can click an AIC name for more information. The inspected roster showed a simple search box, a current list of adults in custody, each person's name, local ID in parentheses, and age. A public profile can show age, date lodged, arresting agency, scheduled release date if any, charge entries, docket or agency references, court/security values, bail or no-bail information, and status.

1. Open the sheriff's Current Adults in Custody roster.
2. Check the update timestamp because the list changes several times a day.
3. Use the roster search box to filter by name or browse the visible list.
4. Click the AIC name and ID link to open the public custody profile.
5. If the person is not listed, call the jail or check ODOC, VISOR, BOP, ICE, and court systems as appropriate.

Linn County also has a separate county inmate-search portal at inmatesearch.linncounty.org. Research could inspect only the front door because it required JavaScript and a captcha. Treat it as a supplemental official portal, while the sheriff's roster page remains the inspectable public roster source.

The roster is not a youth, prison, federal, or immigration locator. Sentenced adult prisoners who have moved to Oregon Department of Corrections custody should be searched through Oregon Offender Search or VISOR. Federal sentenced inmates belong in the BOP locator, and immigration detainees belong in ICE ODLS. A person missing from the Linn County adult roster may have been released, transferred, not yet entered after booking, held under a different system, or never lodged locally.

Linn County Jail Address and Contact

Use the jail line for custody, lodging, visitation, and immediate facility questions. Use the sheriff's records process for written copies of reports, booking records, or records that require review before release. The sheriff's non-emergency number is answered around the clock, but emergency calls should go to 911.

Records requests must be in writing on the sheriff's Request for Copies of Records form. Submission options in the research are in person, mail, fax to 541-967-8169, or email to Records_Reports@linnsheriff.org. The current records page lists fees including $12 for the first 25 pages of law-enforcement reports or general records, $0.25 per additional single-sided page, rich media processing charges, and $5 for a mug shot for ID purposes. Requests are reviewed before release, and under-investigation reports may release only limited information.

Visiting Someone at Linn County Jail

Adult visitation is appointment based and tied to the AIC's housing group. The AIC must submit a Requested Visitor list with each proposed visitor's full name, date of birth, phone number, and home address. An AIC may have up to six approved visitors at a time and may update the list on the first of each month. Call 541-812-9212 the day before the desired visit between 7 AM and noon or 1 PM and 4:30 PM. Visitors must arrive 15 minutes early with government-issued photo ID showing photo and date of birth.

Each AIC may receive a maximum of two visiting hours per week, and each visit may last no longer than 30 minutes. The visiting week starts Wednesday morning and ends Sunday evening. A visitor may visit only once on the same day. The January 2026 update moved female AIC visitation to the back visitation area, while all check-ins still happen in the lobby.

Because housing assignments can change, confirm the approved visitor status and appointment time before traveling to the jail.

Mail, Phone, and Money at Linn County Jail

Personal mail changed on January 23, 2025. Letters, postcards, greeting cards, and personal mail must be sent to the third-party scanning address for electronic delivery. Personal mail arriving at the jail after that date is returned. Books from a publisher or clearing house still go to the physical jail address at 1115 Jackson Street SE, Albany, OR 97322. Legal, official, privileged, or confidential mail must be marked that way and is opened in the AIC's presence for contraband inspection. Photos must be 4x6 or smaller, comply with content rules, and an AIC may possess up to 10 photos.

Do not mail cash, checks, or money orders to either the scanning address or the jail. For bail, the April 7, 2026 local update is especially important: the jail accepts direct bail only by certified cashier's check, made payable to the court that set bail, and court-specific routing determines whether the courthouse or jail accepts the payment at that time.

That payment guidance is specific to adult AICs in the Linn County Jail and should not be copied to the juvenile detention center or OYA youth programs without confirmation from those facilities.

Booking and Intake at Linn County Jail

Linn County does not publish a complete public booking manual, so the best local evidence comes from the roster fields, jail overview, phone policy, and Oregon custody workflow. After arrest or court remand, a person may be taken to the jail by the Sheriff's Office, Albany Police Department, another municipal agency, Oregon State Police, probation or parole, or another authority. Jail staff then complete identity, property, screening, fingerprinting, charge entry, and classification steps before the person appears on the public roster after data entry and a roster refresh.

Within a reasonable time after admission, AICs may use phones to contact family, friends, or an attorney unless intake forms are incomplete because of disruptive behavior. Incoming calls to AICs are not accepted. Voicemail can be left through 866-516-0115. Family members who hear anger, depression, or suicidal thoughts during a call or video visit are instructed by the sheriff's phone page to contact the facility immediately at 541-967-3901.

Booking charges are not always the final court charges. The jail roster records custody-facing charges and bail or no-bail status. Formal court charges appear through Linn County Circuit Court, Justice Court, Albany Municipal Court, or another court depending on the case. Use court records for prosecution status, case filings, amendments, dismissals, convictions, and hearing history.

About Linn County Jail

The current jail replaced a much smaller courthouse jail and has a capacity story tied to local growth, wing openings, budget closures, and later reopening. The visitation schedule also gives a useful view into the facility's housing categories, including A Block, C Block, F Block, Prelim Males, protective-custody groups, HRO, Work Quarters, L Block, Female MED, Female MAX, and Female PC groups. The sheriff does not define every abbreviation publicly, so those labels should be treated as official schedule labels rather than interpreted beyond the source.

Roster users should also know what is missing. Linn County does not publish booking photos on the public Current Adults in Custody roster because Oregon's 2021 HB 3273 and ORS 133.870 restrict law-enforcement release of booking photos. The inspected profile did not show a mugshot, date of birth, sex, race, height, weight, hair or eye color, housing unit, booking time, judge, full statute code, or warrant number.
